To build:
execute the makefif script
./makefif (or if . is in your path, a simple maketoys will do).

usage:
type fif and answer the questions! For further (and frankly 
tiresome) instructions, read either the html page or the 
source (highly recommended; heavily commented).

Why:
One of the biggest problems when designing a newtonian telescope 
is picking the size of the secondary and/or figuring out how 
close the focuser needs to be if you have a particular image
target size in mind, particularly if you are designing a 
planetary scope.

It's handy to know the size of the fully illuminated field 
(the radius of the "spot" in the virtual image that uses the
entire mirror -- and gets full resolution).

Inches are useful for film, maybe, but not for visual scopes.
(I would actually prefer mm if I were doing film, but hey). 
Ergo this program.
